| AIMS: |
To Devlop and enhance the spatial concepts of students through Map work pratice. |

| EXPLANATION: |
Studens will be introduced the skills for interpretings maps and plans, and consequently can use a map and related equipments to locate place in real world. |
|
| OBJECTIVE: |
1. |
Student Knows what re maps and plans and the different between them. |
|
2. |
Students acqure the following skills in order to use maps and plan in more efficient ways:
- Using map cales and converting from one form to another.
- Using proper format to tell directions.
- Using grid system to locate a place.
- Using longitudes and latitudes to find different place on a world map.
- Using suitable land marks to design sketch maps.

- Students can develop a concrete spatial concept.
- Students have the ability to read map for any purpose.
- Students can use suitable formats to tell those information related to locating places.
- Arouse students interest in exploring the neighboring area of their school and homes.

| ASSESSMENT: |
|
To facilitate and to check students’ learning, the following methods will be undertaken:

- Common exercises |

The same set of worksheet will be distributed to all students for each topic, marks will be given and accounting for 6 CA marks. Marks will be carried into the final score |

- Note-book Checking and classroom Performance |

- Test |

A form test will be arranged to carry out in late October or early November, focusing on those skills mentioned above, to check how familiar are the students when using such skills. It carries 10 marks to the final score. |

- Project (2nd Term) |

A Project will be undertaken where students will have to submit a map and a written report on “land use problem” before the Easter holiday. The land use map and the report will be counted 10% of the total scores in 2nd term. |

- Exam |

Exam paper carries 80 marks to the final score. The exam may cover all skills and knowledge that students have learnt with the school term. |

To introduce to students natural hazards that occur from weather systems and nature. |

| EXPLANATION: |
Students will be introduced to Weather System and its impacts to our lives under the concept of natural hazards. They will be introduced to other natural hazards such as; VOLCANOES and EARTHQUAKES.

| OBJECTIVE: |

- Meteorological Hazards.
- Concept map of natural hazards.

| ASSESSMENT: |
| To facilitate and to check students’ learning, the following methods will be undertaken:

Homeworkd will be checked and assesed to provide a total of 3 CA marks. |

- Exercise Book Checking (Class Performace) |

Student are expected to take notes in class; their exercise books will be reviewed on a term basis accounting for 2 CA mards |

- Group Work |

Group work (2 per Group) for teh first term; with particular focus on the use of weather instruments; and for the second term on landslides (5 of 20 CA marks) |

- Test (Mid-Term) |

Summative assessment of student learning through the first term. Weighting at 10 to 20 CA marks. |

- Group Project (Final-Term) |

Formative assessment through problem based learning (3 - 5 Per Group); Weighting at 10 of 20 CA marks, the topic will be on natural hazards and designed by students. |

To facilitate students′ appreciation of the need to conserve resources. |
|
| EXPLANATION: |
To assist students in knowing how themselves and society as a whole is responsible for the consumption of resources; that these resources are limited and their exploitation induces specific impacts to the environment.

| OBJECTIVE: |
1. |
Our resources are important to us.
⇒ focus on ‘power resources’. |
|
2. |
Our socitey is responsible for the impacts to our environment.
⇒ Acknowledgement that the use of resources has effects on our ‘air and ocean’
⇒ Learning that our way of living affects the amount of resources we use.

We have to conserve our resources
⇒ How do we limit usage of resources; what alternatives are there?

⇒ How do we interact within a ‘tropical rainforest systems ’

| ASSESSMENT: |
| To facilitate and to check students’ learning progress, 20% of the grade will be subject to in a form of coninuous assessment. It is proposed that the following methods are to be employes:

- Common exercises |

2 common exercises and weight at 5% (3% + 2%) in each term to enchance students’ understanding over the topics that they have learnt. |

- Form Test |

One form test will be held in each term and will weight at 10% and 5% respectively. |

- Project Work |

Group work for each term; students need to write a proposal about how are they going to conduct a survey about the air quality in causeway Bay in first term. Then they need to complete the project and submit it in the second term. The weighting of the proposal and final project is 3% and 8% respectively. |

- Map Reading Exercise |
| |
Weight at 1% each and 2 map reading exercises in each term will be given to students to consolidate their map reading skills. |
